Oncology Massage
Why Oncology Massage?
People who are currently receiving or have previously received treatment for cancer may need a range of modifications for the treatment to be both safe and beneficial for their body, mind, and spirit. It is important to see a massage therapist who has specific training in up-to-date research conclusions about what kind of massage is appropriate and helpful.
Especially if currently receiving cancer treatment such as surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy, traditional massage is often too taxing to the system — creating more stress than relief. Oncology massage is a gentle massage that has been shown to significantly decrease pain, anxiety, and depression in people with cancer.
And even if the cancer was treated long ago, depending on the specifics of the treatment, oncology massage modifications may still be necessary.
Cancer treatment can be harsh — many people end up distancing themselves or disassociating from their bodies in order to make it through the day-to-day clinical environment. Oncology massage is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with one’s body — feel comfort, feel whole, feel calm and nurtured.
